Switch Game Review: Paper Mario: Origami King

Paper Mario is a game that got started in July 2000 with the game Paper Mario for the N64.  20 years later came another Paper Mario Game in the form of Paper Mario: Origami King.  This game was on the Nintendo Switch and noted to being the sixth of those games in line for the Paper Mario chronology.  From my personal opinion this is the third best of the Paper Mario's, behind The Thousand Year Door and Paper Mario.  What do I think it does well? Not well? All that and more below.

Positives:

1. Graphics- This is a broken record for Nintendo but they did really well with the graphics on this game and I felt glad that Paper Mario was in a large way really, really good with the graphics on the Switch.

2. Storyline- I thought this story was pretty cool.  Mario and a Origami's sister vs. her brother all while saving.. yep you guessed it Princess Peach.  For the love of God Princess stop getting kidnapped..  For real though the storyline is really cool!  I quite enjoyed the stories and the road to the end of the game.

3. Luigi and Bowser- They are both comic relief players here and it is absolutely amazing always.  I feel there has to be that one comic relief person but both provide it and it is very, solidly amazing to have in the game.

4. Bowser Jr- I love the family aspect to the game and he plays a good role as well.  I felt him fighting for the family honor was pretty neat overall.

5. Music- It is absolutely fantastic and does really, really well overall in every area.  I was very impressed with the music selection overall in this game and quite frankly it is amazing how well done it was

Negative:

1. Bosses- This was comical at best and really just a 'wtf' worthy thing.  It was just something that while I understood with Origami I felt was sorely just.. odd and weird.

2. Combat system- Massive joke this is.  I think I speak for a lot of people who said the combat was just not good at all.  I felt like this was just not a good thing overall and it led to me disliking the game at times.  I feel this, more than the bosses, really downgraded this game for me.

Overall Rating

For the first time gamer, or someone just trying to complete a full collection of games to beat, then Paper Mario: Origami King is for you.  If not, then you can just avoid this.  Yes the game's music, storyline and music are good and Bowser Jr, Bower and Luigi play funny and good support roles, but the games combat and bosses are to be laughed at a lot.  I overall cannot give a high recommendation for this game.

Overall Rating: 6.5 out of 10, and while probably better than Paper Mario: Sticker Star.. well below Paper Mario and Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door.
