Switch Game Review: Animal Crossing: New Horizons

Animal Crossing, New Horizons is a game on the Nintendo Switch that came out in 2020 and won Best Family Game at the Game Awards.  It's a game that you build a residence on an island and decorate your island to look vibrant, amazing and bring visitors and island citizens there.  It's a game that has been featured in many streams and has undergone a lot of updates.  I will focus on the game before this latest update hit ACNH, but without further ado, here we go!

Positives:

1. Calm/Relaxing: The game can honestly just be a chill, relaxing vibe of a game and that is a big difference from those that are Zelda, Mario, etc. for Nintendo.  It's music is just calm and relaxing and you can just enjoy it for a couple of hours as you build your island.

2. Different personalities of villagers: It's funny because you wouldn't think that is a major thing to this game but the fact they make villagers with different personalities really works here.  They do well to incorporate either like a peppy villager, or grumpy, or lazy or whatever it is.  It all does really well overall.

3. Graphics: This is just the norm with Nintendo games, solid graphics are a major part of Nintendo games.  ACNH is no different.  The graphics here are just top notch and very nice overall for all items and all areas of an island.

4. Fun to play online: This is one that evolved but pending Nintendo Servers not being hot garbage, this game is actually pretty fun online to play.  People can just visit the island you are at or you can do 'dream travels' and if you wanted, you can just travel back in time and go back to a different timeframe.  All in all it is good fun to do and be a part of.

Negatives:

1. Terraforming: To me this is very tedious.  I get it though, but I don't think it should be this tedious and time consuming in a game that really just is about to be fun.

2. Hard to 100 percent: Only if you are a completionist is this one for you.  If you aren't, like myself, then do not worry.  I can't imagine the one ocean item, that one bug, or fish or something that prohibits you from 100 percent.  It is what is to be fair but I wish they would have had a bit of an easier way to do this for a game designed around fun.

Overall Rating

Note, like I said above this is before the newest update recently that made the game a bit different with some more features.  However, I quite enjoyed ACNH for the most part.  It is a very chill game, a fun game to play by yourself or online when Nintendo servers aren't complete garbage.  Overall I would recommend this game to the first time gamer of Animal Crossing.

Overall rating: 8.5 out of 10.
